Gerlinde & Stephen Gray first undertook a
banger rally in 2006 to raise funds for local charity DASH. The rally
involved driving down to Naples in a car costing less than £100,
covering 1500 miles in 4 days. Over £1300 was raised for
DASH funds to promote drugs awareness and assist young people's issues
in the Shipston area. In 2007, Geoff undertook the first Calais to
Casablanca rally to raise funds for Transplant Sport UK and Gerlinde
& Stephen drove in the 2007 Czech Wrecks run, again to support
DASH. Not satisfied with this, Stephen & Gerlinde joined the new
"End
2 End" banger rally from Lands End to John O'Groats in August 2009

The funds raised from End2End 2009 again go to DASH, perhaps with an
element of the
funds raised going to Aunt Phoebe's Recreation Ground, both registered
charities.
The challenge of the End2End run is to complete a route of 1300 miles (excluding getting there and back) in a car costing less
than £150. The car has to be both roadworthy and legal, ours is a
veteran of both the run to Casablanca and the Czech Wrecks run to
Prague. It should perhaps be said that car (named Tallulah) has given
trouble on both trips but survived to tell the tale.
If you are able to help us by giving funds to DASH and Aunt Phoebe's,
please contact us on 01608 662673 or sgray@stour.demon.co.uk .
Please note that ALL contributions go directly the charities, we pay
100% of the cost of the rally ourselves, nothing is deducted.
DASH is a Shipston charity which helps to raise
awareness of drugs concerns locally and tackles young peoples' issues.
They have undertaken a number of activities and seek to raise young
peoples' expectations and present them with choices. Click the link to
the Staples2Naples run to see details of the "Prison Me No-Way!!!"
event held at Shipston High School.
Transplant Sport UK is another registered Charity whose
main aim is to raise awareness of the need for organ donation in the UK
and worldwide. They do this through organising sports and social
events for transplant recipients, showing the benefits of organ
donation and proving that you can lead a normal and active life again
after transplantation.
Aunt Phoebe's Recreation Ground is the charity which
owns the playing field in Long Compton. The charity has
no other income and functions only through the support of the
Acorns Primary School and the Parish Council. This is a critical time
for the playing field as there are ambitions to set up a Long Compton
Sports Club and also tackle some of the maintenance jobs on the
site.
